The Legacy Network for University Partnership
The Legacy Network for University Partnership was launched in July 2022 as an activity to inherit Japanese university collaboration formed at the time of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games held in 2021.
On June 23, 2014, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee signed a partnership agreement between universities and junior colleges across Japan. At that time, 552 universities and junior colleges signed agreements. In 2021, it expanded to include collaboration with 810 universities and junior colleges. This was the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that so many universities and junior colleges collaborated on the occasion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The partnership not only fostered momentum for the Games, but also created opportunities for young people to connect with the future of society, including sports, peace, sustainability, and gender equality, through the promotion of Olympic and Paralympic education and the implementation of student-led projects and events.
In order to make this link sustainable, on June 9, 2022, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC), the Japan Para Sports Association/Japan Paralympic Committee (JPSA/JPC), and the Japan Olympic Academy (JOA) agreed to maintain their collaboration with universities through the Legacy Network for University Partnership.
